Description
The 5-1/4” high half rack mount AVC-585 Automatic Valve Controller is designed to automate the valving sequence for fully automatic operation of diffusion/turbo, or cryo pumped high vacuum pumping systems. The controller can be interlocked in the automatic modes to protect the vacuum system to prevent initiation of the start phase until conditions are safe. A manual operating mode is provided to facilitate set-up or service work. The low profile cabinet is suitable for bench top or half rack mounting.
The AVC-585 is powered from an 80-264 VAC, 3 amp source and will handle the three basic electro-pneumatic vacuum valves (roughing, foreline, high vacuum) and a solenoid vent valve in any vacuum system. Switchable between fully automatic or manual control.
Time delay, for sequential valve operations is set with on screen settings that can be changed to match a customer’s requirements.
Forepressure warning, if the fore-pressure rises above a user set-point there is an on screen waring, audible alarm and there is also a relay that is active on the auxiliary connector. This normally open relay can be used to sound an alarm, or, with an additional relay, to turn off the diffusion pump.
A clear and bold schematic of a typical system is on the front panel to assist in tracing the function being performed. In the different modes, color change on the schematic indicate valve status.
The panel meter indicates the station pressure in the chamber and at the foreline/regen line. The sensors are the highly reliable and stable GT-034 thermistor tubes.
Operator-Selectable Phases – Pressing the system stop closes all vacuum valves except the foreline valve on Diffusion/Turbo pump systems, putting the system in a standby condition. Once in the stand by conditions pressing the system vent button then opens the chamber vent valve. The vent valve is closed automatically after a user preset time to conserve backfill gas, an on screen timer show the amount of time.

Mode Selection
On screen mode selection for manual, diffusion/turbo or cyro pumped systems.
Manual Mode
This mode is used when performing maintenance or when operating under exceptional conditions. All valve functions are controlled by the operator alone, using the on screen switches. Safety interlocks are inoperative.
Automatic Mode Diffusion/Turbo
In this mode, the controller programs the vacuum system through the foreline, roughing and high-vacuum phases at the touch of the system start button.
Valves are operated in response to system pressure instead of time. System malfunctions such as leaks, failure of the high-vacuum valve to seal, pump failures, etc. will cause the system to go into a hold condition with the foreline open.
Automatic Mode Cryo
In this mode, the controller programs the vacuum system through the roughing and high-vacuum phases at the touch of the system start button. The foreline valve is used when the system is in regen.
Valves are operated in response to system pressure instead of time. System malfunctions such as leaks, failure of the high-vacuum valve to seal, pump failures, etc. will cause the system to go into a hold condition.
